Completion of New State of The Art Laboratory Facility at University of East Anglia
Building on the success of a previous project undertaken for the University, Omnis were pleased to be awarded the contract to deliver this benchmark project beating off very strong opposition in and, what is still, a very competitive market place.
The project to transform the now barely recognizable original facilities into a contemporary laboratory incorporating a cold room and write up room, was predominately undertaken during the University’s summer recess.Initially the laboratory and office space was totally gutted with existing internal walls removed and the open space completely reconfigured to make way for the new facility. Steps and measures were taken at all times to safeguard and preserve the integrity of the listed nature of the building structure itself and a number of retained and subsequently refurbished fittings.
All new mechanical and electrical installations were provided, which included climate controlled ventilation and fume extract systems, installed and integrated into a “live” operational system.
The new facilities extensively feature up to the minute high quality laboratory furniture manufactured and installed by Associated Joinery Techniques Limited The specialist firm selected by Omnis as their supply chain partner for this project, following careful vetting of other installations carried out by them at the Royal Veterinary College in London.
“One of our prime objectives was to maintain a low profile. Whilst the vast majority of the works were carried out during the summer recess, research activities in the building continued throughout the construction period.
As such we sequenced works to ensure disruption and disturbance was eliminated, or where in some isolated instances not possible, reduced to the absolute minimum” said Project Manager, Simon Dazeley.
Just to make sure there was never a dull moment in Simon’s day, during the project, the Omnis management team created sufficient time for him to assist with the delivery of another laboratory being undertaken concurrently by the University themselves.
“We are delighted to have been able to successfully deliver this project to the meet exacting standards required and, look forward to further future involvement with the University”
Omnis MD, Martin Worrall, added.
