New Pumping Station

Further to being successfully appointed as Principal Contactor, Omnis Construction, working in association with Engineer Robert Stone Associates and Commercial Project Manager Anderton Quantity Surveyors, recently commenced construction of a new pumping station for Horsham Developments Limited.

The scheme at Abbey Farm Commercial Park just outside of Norwich will ultimately see an updated facility providing considerably increased capacity, replacing the existing foul water pumping station. The project will involve the construction of a deep wet well facility incorporating automated macerating pumps and associated MDPE pumping main discharging off site. Works will also include the diversion of exiting “live” FWS and installation of a new gravity main.

Ladys Lane - Wymondham

The project to construct a new switch house and reconfigure the current sub station started in July. Since then steady progress has been achieved with the new building steelwork structure completed and masonry works well underway.

This project is due for operational completion next year.

Equipment Installation At Huntingdon

August saw the completion of Phase One works at Huntingdon Grid site. Good progress in completing the main reinforced concrete transformer bund structures since works commenced in March, allowed the installation date for the new 132kV grid transformers to be brought forward.

Omnis have been praised for their high quality of workmanship and careful approach, executing works in a demanding “live” environment. “We are very pleased how well phase one works have gone” said Omnis Project Manager, Rob Eckersall.
Omnis expects to return to site in late October to commence Phase Two works constructing a major new steel framed switch house building to accommodate control equipment associated with the new transformers.

Completion of New State of The Art Laboratory Facility at University of East Anglia

Building on the success of a previous project undertaken for the University, Omnis were pleased to be awarded the contract to deliver this benchmark project beating off very strong opposition in and, what is still, a very competitive market place.

The project to transform the now barely recognizable original facilities into a contemporary laboratory incorporating a cold room and write up room, was predominately undertaken during the University’s summer recess.Initially the laboratory and office space was totally gutted with existing internal walls removed and the open space completely reconfigured to make way for the new facility. Steps and measures were taken at all times to safeguard and preserve the integrity of the listed nature of the building structure itself and a number of retained and subsequently refurbished fittings.

All new mechanical and electrical installations were provided, which included climate controlled ventilation and fume extract systems, installed and integrated into a “live” operational system.

The new facilities extensively feature up to the minute high quality laboratory furniture manufactured and installed by Associated Joinery Techniques Limited The specialist firm selected by Omnis as their supply chain partner for this project, following careful vetting of other installations carried out by them at the Royal Veterinary College in London.
“One of our prime objectives was to maintain a low profile. Whilst the vast majority of the works were carried out during the summer recess, research activities in the building continued throughout the construction period.

As such we sequenced works to ensure disruption and disturbance was eliminated, or where in some isolated instances not possible, reduced to the absolute minimum” said Project Manager, Simon Dazeley.
Just to make sure there was never a dull moment in Simon’s day, during the project, the Omnis management team created sufficient time for him to assist with the delivery of another laboratory being undertaken concurrently by the University themselves.

“We are delighted to have been able to successfully deliver this project to the meet exacting standards required and, look forward to further future involvement with the University”
Omnis MD, Martin Worrall, added.

Framework Agreement

After entering into a term Framework Agreement with Carillion Utilities Services at the turn of the year, works have continued apace with a variety of projects for EDF Energy.

During the year Omnis has completed the construction of the new multi million pound Arbury Grid substation and the associated upgrading works to the Sleaford Street, Storeys Way and Barnwell substations in Cambridge. It has also seen the completion of the difficult deep tunnelled under-track rail crossing adjacent to the river Nene at Peterborough Central and new build switch house at Wroxham Primary. In addition projects are in progress at Huntingdon and Wymondham and works have recently commenced at Hadleigh.

“We are aiming to build on this continuing success and look to strengthen our position in this sector of the industry” says Commercial Director & Key Account Manager, Jon Smith.
